Orange & Poppy-Seed Cake


I love to bring this cake to share with my colleagues for morning tea at work as it is very easy to make and it goes really well with coffee and tea.


  •  2 navel oranges
  • 185g butter or 1 cup of vegetable oil
  •  2 eggs
  •  1 cup of caster sugar
  •  1 1/2 cups self raising flour
  • 2 tbsp. poppy seeds




  1. Preheat oven to 160 º. Grease a baking tray. I use a rectangular one.
  2. Boil oranges for about 45 minutes to reduce the bitterness in the skin, then cut off the top and
    bottom. Make sure there are no seeds, place in a food processor and blend until smooth.
  3. Add melted butter, sugar, eggs and mix well together. Add self raising flour and poppy seeds.
  4. Pour the mixture into the baking tray. Cook for about 40 minutes depending on your oven.
    It should be golden and cooked through.
  5. Remove the cake from the oven and allow them to cool before removing them from the tray. You can make icing if you like but
    it doesn’t really need it ^_^
